Key Staff at the Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority
Michael J. Brinker, Jr.
Executive Director
Michael J. Brinker, Jr. joined the RVSA in 2002 as Chief Engineer. Mike formerly served the RVSA as the Consulting Engineer with the firm of Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor, LLC. He earned B.S. and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering. Mike has a C-4 Collection System Operator License and is a Professional Engineer. He also served as Executive Director/Chief Engineer of the Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties. He has more than 36 years experience in Wastewater/Environmental Engineering and Design and Supervision.
Robert J. Materna
Secretary-Treasurer
Robert J. Materna joined the RVSA in 1996, and brought 40 years of financial experience to the Authority. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Accounting from St. Peter's College and is a Certified Public Accountant. Bob is responsible for overseeing the daily financial operations and preparing the annual budget. He has served as President of the Meadowlands Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants, the United Way of Passaic County and the Philharmonic Society of Northern New Jersey.
Robert L. Valent
Superintendent
Robert L. Valent joined the RVSA in 1986 as a Maintenance Man. He was promoted in 1987 to Maintenance Supervisor II, in 1999 to Assistant Operations Supervisor, and his most recent promotion in 2003, to Superintendent. Bob is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of the treatment plant. Bob has an S-2 Treatment Plant Operator License, a New Jersey Blue Seal Stationary Engineer License and is a member of the New Jersey Water Environment Association.
Joanne Grimes
Office Administrator
Joanne Grimes joined the RVSA in 1985 as an Executive Secretary and was promoted to Office Administrator in 1990. She also serves as the Assistant Secretary and the liaison between the Authority and its member municipalities; and was appointed to serve as the RVSA's Custodian of Records. Joanne handles the bidding of services and supplies, processes all sewer connection applications, prepares all documentation for the Board of Commissioners and transcribes the minutes of the public meetings. She is responsible for oversight of all aspects of the office. She received an Administrative Assistant Certificate from Union College and is a Notary Public.
